Dean Team

The members of the Dean Team support the event speaker recruitment and communication, and participate in the Dean Challenge.

  • Hanna Wass

    Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki

    Hanna Wass is responsible for societal interaction, equality, and sustainability. She is an internationally recognized expert in democracy, representation and health and political behavior.

  • Adam Smale

    Dean at the School of Management and Professor in Management and Business Administration, University of Vaasa

    Adam Smale specializes in international HRM - more specifically HRM, talent management and careers in multinational corporations. He has published around 30 articles on these topics in leading international journals.

  • Jaakko Suominen

    Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Professor of Digital Culture, University of Turku

    With a focus on the cultural history of media and information technologies, Jaakko Suominen has studied computers and popular media, Internet, social media, digital games, and theoretical and methodological aspects of the study of digital culture.

  • Rosa Ballardini

    (Msc of law, LL.M, Ph.D, Docent), Professor of IP law and Vice Dean (research), University of Lapland, Faculty of Law.

    Rosa Ballardini’s research interests focus on the interfaces between law (with focus on IP law), technology, and sustainability and ethics, topics where she has written extensively and where she leads various multi-disciplinary projects and groups. Her research approach is multidisciplinary, combining law, technology, business and policy via using different types of methodologies.

  • Martti Kauranen

    Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Tampere University.

    Martti Kauranen is a Professor of Physics by background, where his expertise is in optical physics, more specifically in nonlinear optics. He has made pioneering contributions in nonlinear optical properties of nanostructured materials. He is a Fellow of two worldwide societies.

  • Neil Cronin

    Professor of Exercise Biology and a Vice Dean for Research & Innovation at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyväskylä

    Neil Cronin’s research interests center around human locomotion and image processing. Recently he has been working with AI techniques such as Deep Learning (Convolutional Neural Networks), in an effort to improve the objectivity and efficiency of the process.

  • Turkka Keinonen

    Professor of Design and Vice Dean for Research at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

    Turkka Keinonen has worked for Finnish design consultancies, been a principal research scientist at Nokia Research Center and worked as a visiting professor at the National University of Singapore. He has published more than 100 articles, conference papers and patents on human centred design, concept design and design strategy. His recent research deals with ethics of human centred design.

  • Mari Kallioinen-Mänttäri

    Dean at the School of Engineering Sciences, LUT University.

    Mari Kallioinen-Mänttäri is a professor of Separation Technology for Biorefineries. Her main research interest is in the development of sustainable membrane technology based processes for biorefining. As the Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences she leads the faculty consisting of academics in separation science, physics, software engineering, social sciences, computational engineering and industrial engineering and management.
